I was doing a lot of writing and poetry and Mrs. McGovern just encouraged me.  She was like "you're a really good writer" and she just kept encouraging me to write.  Nobody had ever said that to me before - and nobody said that to me after that either - when I was in school. I hope when my daughter is grown up that she has a job she really enjoys that she feels confident in.  I hope that she has meaningful relationships in her life.  I hope that she  has lots of time beyond work to live a fulfilled life and pursue some of her  other passions besides what she's going to do for work. If you are a child who was born into poverty in this country, the likelihood that you will be able to escape poverty is not high.  And that goes against every ideal that we have as a country, and it makes me mad - it is the fire in my belly that just pisses me off every day, that we have children who have so much potential and so much to offer the world, and they are not able to live up to that potential because they're not able to attend high-quality schools.
